"a portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2015."
Stella: She's been falling asleep on her own this week. And it's been going so well! Since we started this new program, she's been exploring her independence in other ways, and that's wonderful to watch.
Hugo: He's been shaking his head noooooooooo when I ask him questions. On the rare occasion that he wants to say yes, he laughs to indicate his accord.
It's been a slow and quiet week for the kids. They didn't go anywhere at all. Jakarta traffic has been a mess thanks to the Asia-Africa Conference. The government, in it's infinite wisdom, shut down some of the city's most vital thoroughfares (at rush hour, of course!), disrupting the lives and livelihoods of so many so that the delegates of these developing nations, these -- I'm sure -- virtuous and altruistic delegates in their five star hotels and private jets, could get to their meetings unmolested by the base and common afflictions of traffic and uhhhh, you know, the actual citizens of Jakarta. Anyway, not that I'm bitter or anything.
So, the kids stayed home, played with the neighbours, swam in the pool, and complained a lot about not being able to go to school. And maybe the slower pace this week wasn't so terrible? I made dinner a lot, got some work done, and spent a good amount of time hanging out with the kids. I feel like this week we actually, maybe, possibly achieved that rare and precious feeling of balance.
