"a portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2015."

Stella: When she's trying to convince me of something, she says, "we want to go swimming today, wight Hugo?" And this little question tag always elicits a baby "YEAH!"

Hugo: He went on the swings for the first time. And didn't want to come off.

Portraits of heads and toes this week. Fitting because our little life has felt rather upside down for the past while, with being banished from our apartment and overseeing some major renovations. I'm a week late posting this diptych. Just as the kids recovered from their recent bout of vomiting, their papi was taken down by the bug. And then their babysitter went taken out too. So, I sidelined all work responsibilities for several days and spent time with the kids. Which is nice, really. We were able to do things that we normally wouldn't, like take an spur of the moment trip to a distant grocery store in search of Cheerios that rhumer suggested were in stock. Or, an afternoon walk to the park (which sounds mundane but in Jakarta is actually kind of a big deal and involves carrying the stroller up a huge flight of stairs, navigating open sewers, crumbled sidewalks, walking with two little kids directly in traffic. You have to be in the right mind frame for that!)

I do love having that concentrated two-on-one time with my kiddos. It's nice to be their one and only for a stretch. But it is also nice to share the burden of wiping bottoms, fielding cries of boredom, and mediating squabbles, and get out and feel productive for a few hours in the morning.
