Kid-Friendly Hiking Trails in Switzerland - Muggestutz Hike, Hasliberg - Mägisalp to Bidmi
The outdoor lifestyle is a hugely important part of Swiss Culture. If you’ll turn a blind eye to this sweeping generalization, Swiss people love to spend their weekends in nature, together with friends and family. With so many trails crossing the country, hiking is a hugely popular family activity. On weekends you can see countless families clad in rip-stop pants and hiking boots heading out to the woods.
I know what you’re thinking - KIDS HATE HIKING! HOW DO SWISS FAMILIES DO IT?
The secret is kid-friendly hiking trails that teach children how to actually enjoy hiking!
THE MUGGESTUTZ HIKE, HASLIBERG, SWITZERLAND
The Muggestutz hike is just one of these kid-friendly hikes in Switzerland that will train your children to be great hikers.
The Muggestutz hike, or Dwarf Trail starts at Mägisalp above Hasliberg, and follows a gentle downhill to Bidmi. The trail is aout 5 KM and is suitable for even the smallest hikers. It, (no great surprise here) has a drarf theme. The scenery includes impressive alpine vistas, forested trails, and lots of meadows. There’s great wild-flower spotting in the spring!
Legend has it that the hills above Hasliberg are filled with drawfs, and this trail makes much hay from this old tradition.
So, about ever 250-500 meters along the Muggestutz hike you’ll find a trail-side attraction, and a little stories explaining what the dwarves have been up to. You’ll find little dwarf-houses, trees for climbing, an incredible eagle swing, and my kids favorite, a maze!
The hike takes less than two hours. There is a grill platz at the beginning of the hike just opposite the lake at Mägisalp, and you’ll find several resting areas along the hike.
For details about the hike see the end of this post!
