Scenes from a Sunday Afternoon

I remember when Hugo was just a brand new baby the light was just like this. It was around Easter time, a shoulder season, as we moved out of the rains and into the sun. Deep shadows and playful patters emerged, flickering on the walls as the palm trees outside swayed in the wind.

It's like that now, again. Maybe because we're moving into the wet season. I don't know. But it's gorgeous. We get a few solid hours of late afternoon glow filtering into our little apartment. And the kids' room is the stage for this light show. So, we sat there for ages, Hugo and I, while light danced and shadows lengthened. Hugo played cars, I sipped a coffee, and when Stella came home from a trip to the fake DVD market, she started to teach her imaginary students Mandarin lessons.
